I haven't been to Gent, but Brugge is certainly more interesting than Brussels, which has its moments but is mostly a large, generic European city. It's worth a day or two, but it's second on list...

It's been a number of years, but Lucerne is lovely. While better than Zurich, there's still enough of a city there to spend a day (or part of one) if you have to for schedule purposes.
