Update... A few weeks ago I had a buddy weld a nut to the Torx bolt head. This worked well. The bolt loosened and the alt replacement went well.

I've done both. I had a 90 Cadillac Seville that never saw anything above 87 and it had over 220k on it. But I currently use high octane cuz at the end of the day it really isn't that much more...

I have Akebono ceramic pads all around on my 02 540i. No dust at all. I believe the rotors are Brembo. I am pleased with everything.
