Nope, most BMW has a damper to open one tail-pipe in idle and slow speed then open up both on highway speed. That's why you notice one tail pipe is darker than the other.

in sport mode you can hold the gear, it won't shift up. RPM will climbs though but the DME will shut the fuel to protect the engine once you hit the red-line.

More likely the trans was already on...

I think E39 headlamp is even worst when it comes to angel-eyes brightness for any plug-n-play bulb.
That's why I went with Depo projector replacement headlamps on my E53 X5, for $600 a set, already...
