I went through BMW NA as well. My 540 had 96,000 miles at the time. At first they wanted me to pay all of the labor - then they would split 50/50. Final cost $70 - same day service.

As far as I understand a clutch SLIPS when it gets worn out. That would mean the rpm's would increase under increased torque until the clutch catches and things settle back down. The rpm's DROP when...

My '98 540 6MT has 112K. Still with original clutch/tranny.
About 5K ago I noticed that when I accelerate in 4th-6th gear at about 3K rpm the engine will respond quickly (normally) - increase in rpm...

540 torque blows away 530, but it does not handle as weel as it should.
Feels heavy.
If anything makes me want to move over to another - poss M roadster it is that heavy feeling in the twisties....

1998 540 with nav and premium system.
Dsp is okay on custom settings but the speakers are simply awful - Nokia believe it or not.
I replaced with BA pro50 rear, Infinity Kappa front,...

I emailed as you recommended and had a response by phone within 48 hours.
They offered to pay for 50%of new module.
I complained and they paid 100% 0f part - $168 for labor oop.
I am second owner...
