Does it only run if you stay on the gas? I'd prolly do a compression check to see if that "ticking" isn't compression leaking past the headgasket. That happened to my awd talon tsi back in the day.

I love my M30B35 swap. it was my first official engine swap and it wasn't too bad to do. Your car would be alot easier to swap the motor than mine because you only have to change a few wires around...
