Triage

You can replace lots of pieces for dependability. You probably ripped the boot while manhandling some other repair. The more often you are in there, the easier it is to find the one way a part slides...

OK so I can leave the obd plugged in when this intermittent fault becomes a more common nuisance. The car is at 186K original sensors. That makes preventative sense, too.

Can I plug this scanner in WHILE the car is running? Is it safer to start with systems off? Can I leave it plugged in while I drive?

Thanks for your input

I forgot to mention that I have a 2000 528i. I changed CPS before. I remember being confused regarding intake and exhaust. At that time, I had a code that went away after replacement. I will keep...

Pagids

I installed pagids that lasted 85-90K miles. Good stoppers, dusty. Replaced with house brand ceramics from consumer auto parts because I noticed how low they were when I was doing struts. I am not...

Maybe only one latch released

If you describe symptoms in more detail, we can help more. If the safety release lever popped out, you may have only one of the 2 cable latches released. There are numerous posts covering the...

Dont forget grommets

Make sure that you have enough grommets to replace all of the VC bolts. I think that the standard kit is 4 grommets short. I have done it twice on my 185K 528i. Same symptoms as yours. Intermittant...

No need to baby our cars

16th winter for 2000 528i. Tracked nicely 320 mile round trip to go skiing in blizzard conditions. Good confidence for rear wheel drive. Bring it on.

My car has these symptoms.

Was it ever working properly?

I experience the same loss of normal heating flow at about 25 minutes. I can feel it cross over to cool.

MY 2000 528i had been in a front end collision and the...

On faith

I have always used a bottle of techron every oil change on every car. I do it on faith. I have no proof of any notable difference. I don't do many things on pure faith.

Ski Pass

I would have loved the utility of folding seats. I had to settle for a ski pass. I cut out the metal behind the arm rest. I found a cutting template for the ski pass somewhere on this site. I will...

If your passenger side latch popped, you should be able to push the drivers side mechanism toward the drivers side using a long screwdriver. From below the front frame, you may be able to see where...

There are 2 latches

There are 2 latches on the front at the outside edges of the kidney grilles. You might be able to hook a coat hanger on the cable that connects the 2 by reaching through the grille. If you can hook...

Wqosma

Thanks for your input. I ended up ordering 2 OEM non sport springs. After doing so, I realized that I can pre assemble the shocks/springs/mounts before ripping the car apart. This is a big...

Rear spring options - non sport

Happy thanksgiving.

I was set to put sachs shocks in my 2000 528i and when I unweighted my suspension, a 4 inch piece from the bottom of my spring fell on the floor. I can't say how long it was...

At this point you should consider Akebono ceramics. Same equal braking but very little black brake dust.

Not replacing springs with strut/shock non-sport

Hello

I bought sachs struts, shocks and hardware to replace originals at 170K on my non-sport 2000 528i. I do not want to lower the car. I am ready to go, but am questioning the springs. They will...
