You have to remove the oxygen sensor, there's no other way I could see otherwise. Have no fear- just unscrew it and set it aside. Protect it with a plastic bag or something from the coolant spills....

In my case the flickering lights issue turned out to be the battery which I had bought from O'reillys. Replaced it with Les Schwab battery. All has been well over 3 years now.
