Once all tires are at the proper cold pressure, reset the TPMS as described in your manual. This will establish your current pressures as a baseline and then the TPMS warning should not go off...

I had a 2008 128i convertible for about 4 years...

I had a 2008 128i convertible for about 4 years and found it to be very reliable and quiet with the top up.

With perhaps 75% highway and back road cruising, overall gas mileage was 27.5 mpg.

OP seemed to be interested in RFT. If he wants a good go-flat, either the Conti Extreme Contact DWS or the Michelin Pilot Sport AS-3 is a better performance/price compromise than the Defender.
