I just changed mine about 3 months ago and thought the same thing about just replacing the o-ring, but it was such a PITA to get to I did not want to do it again if it did...

Edit: Ahah! I just went through the fuses related to the Central Locking System and two of them were burnt. Apparently when the wiring harness was damaged there was some shorts that caused this....
