Check your exhaust pipes. I believe the M's have 4 exhaust tips and also have different fins. I believe that the late model Z3's all had that little M on the steering wheel.

As an alternative, I've used Optimum No Rinse several times this winter with excellent, no swirl or scratch results. Easy and fast and you can do it in your garage.
