I don't like to leave it in the car, so I carry with an inside holster (slips on belt, but fits inside pants),. I like to have it when I get out of the car, and inside the store, bank etc..

Normally a bad thermostat will just get stuck open or closed, will not cause a leak. Where is the coolant leaking from, that is causing the burning smell?

That sucks, hard to believe the expansion tank would go at that low service life, but I guess I wouldn't be completely surprised. Good luck, and let us know what you find.

My Tank went without warning, no leaks or anything. I was driving along, and instantly in a cloud of antifreeze and steam. There was a 6 inch crack on the entire drivers side of the tank. Buy new!!
