That is the weird part about my VANOS noise. It is on the intake side only and only exhibits when the engine is cold. Once the engine warms up it goes away and even cold it goes away above 2000 RPM.

Mine does the exact same thing. I'm not sure it is actually hurting anything. I did quiet it down quite a bit by adding a modest amount of ZDDP to the oil.
