A friend on E90 post installed a water separator on his 335D. There is room on driver's side of engine if you hang it off the left strut brace.

I would try to drive long enough until that regen is finished. Then drive another few minutes and pull over and turn off car. See if fan continues to run then. The too cold condition from failed open...

Yep, you read my mind. A triangle head tool can be easily made with a bench grinder and appropriate sacrificial torx head screwdriver (or whatever you deem has enough meat to grind on).
