The area makes me think that it's coming from the thermostat or water pump. Have you pulled the water pump pulley to see if that is the culprit? What are the bolts torqued at?

I have tried helicoil once and found that it's essentially just wire but I was impressed with timesert. In the end, I just rethreaded to the next bolt size up and it made me more confident in the fix.

Serves you right for putting an M3 bumper on a 325. But, if you do a little homework you'll find that the 2001 bracket should work just fine. I imagine that M3 fender vents and Style 67's are next.
