I would keep the car; it doesn't drive any different from prior to the hail, right? If you are concerned about the appearance, you have the car for other people to look at instead of for yourself.

You most likely can't use the stock E39 flywheel as it was designed to go with the self-adjusting pressure plate. There is a good chance that the stack height will be wrong.

You don't need a new one. There are plenty of wrecked E36 325i from where you can get flywheels almost for free. $50 for resurfacing and $200 for a clutch, pressure plate and TOB.

I'm using an E36 M3 flywheel/clutch on my 530, but the pedal effort is a bit higher. You should be able to get by with any old E36 325/328 complete setup as the clutch is based on the engine torque.
