I had to replace the rivets. The plastic rail that is mentioned I did not see. Once I removed all screws and rivets I basically unsnapped the bumper from the sides by the fenders and walla.

What does good fluid look like? I've changed mine twice and it looked dirty both times. I recommend starting with simple solutions first. Change the fluid and filter then see what happens.

Check for vacuum leaks (hoses, oil cap and dipstick). When changing my vacuum pump oring the hose was very brittle and cracked. So you may have moved something and loosened it.

I remember once not putting my oil cap on securely and when I started my car it ran like it was misfiring. The cap was on but it was not flush so no mess.
