Not sure what you mean by a grommet. The ICV is held in place with a rubber strap, which is snapped in place in the metal bracket. You need to carefully work the tabs out to free the valve.

There is only one evaporator for the A/C. There are two heater cores.

There may be a problem with the air flaps. You'll need a BMW computer to troubleshoot the HVAC.

If the voltage drops with engine temp, it may be a failing regulator.

DO NOT let the engine run for minutes at a time! Start up and, after 30 sec, move out!

You may have a frozen crankcase vent system. Common on cars in The Deep Freeze.

We only got the 2.5, 2.8, 3.0, and 4.4 petrol engines here. Most were autos, with a smattering of manual gearboxes. Most Americans can't/won't drive a car with a manual trans.
