I think the same in CA. DMV fees are like $350 - $500 car (yeah), and they can't mark them up. But they can charge doc prep fees, and other misc. So here I was thinking, wow, $270 to register a car...

I always use it or auto check whenever I'm used car shopping, BUT I think carfax is useful only as a first level check / qualifier - if a problem shows up that bothers you, you move on at that point....
