The reason i personally would not do it hot because by the time you get done adjusting and checking them all it will no longer be "hot". The cold adjust is the best way to go.

sometimes if you pull the cluster theres a screw on the back of the fuel gauge and i believe another on the temp. i tightened these last week and my gauges quite acting up.

I grew up in the BAY AREA and know how the smog laws are there.......now the midwest
(Kansas City) and several east coast states simply do not hassle with smog.
