Yeah no way squirting some right stuff in there will seal it properly.. best case it works for a short time (maybe), then you have to do the work twice to replace it. URO unit never leaked on me..

I did replace them when I did mine. The new ones were noticeably longer than the old so I was glad I replaced them (maybe 2-3mm longer)

Though if it were you could have just left the VANOS solenoids unplugged and it would be just fine to drive, so I guess that would have been easier..

Disconnect the VANOS solenoids, start the car and see what happens.

That will disable both the VANOS and the valvetronic systems and force it to use the throttle body for throttle control...
