For 5 days, I had a 2017 BMW X1 - an x drive edition, fully loaded.

My take:

This is a much different car from the first X1 I had as a loaner, the 2014 model, which was based on the E90...

I'd second the suggestion to look at the Fiat 124 - it's (arguably) better looking, slightly larger and heavier (100lbs) and more "grown up" - it might bridge the gap between miata/2 series nicely.

2006 330i's (and 325's) were E90's as sedans only, coupes and convertibles were E46's.

E90's were in their first year of production then.
