As long as you want, you just won't have vanos which means crappy low and mid-range acceleration. Mine did not throw any codes when I unplugged the vanos solenoid.

Correction: It takes 16 minutes and 1 extra tool (14mm?) socket w wrench to release tension on a/c tensioner to remove a/c belt to remove serpentine belt.
