On my 98 Z3 the switch was made by Cherry, but they won't sell to you directly, so you have to get one from BMW. Replacement as I recall was relatively straightforward once the seat was out.

Had to replace the entire softtop frame once, considered replacing the hydraulic cylinder with a gas assist one but the bottom attachment was difficult to access. That cylinder is one tough piece....

When I took my broken mirror metal piece to a welder who said it was pot cast aluminum and that if he touched a welder to it it would melt. Lots of JB weld held it in place until I got a replacement....
