If you've got a metal-on-metal sound when you take off, a simple thing to check is the dust shield. Make sure it isn't rubbing on the rotor. You could even just reach behind the wheel and bend it out...

I'm 75% sure my car does have a clutch safety switch. I.e. the car won't start unless you're on the clutch.

But the no-power to the OBC is your problem, not the clutch.

I just want to reiterate this point: overheating your engine will be super bad. Like $2000 bad....
