Sounds like your voltage regulator is overcharging. The voltage regulator is cheap, & easy to change, after you remove the alternator.

You could use an easy out, that should pull it right out. Removing the radiator is pretty easy, so you could take it to a local radiator shop. They might remove it for very little.
