You have a point. But consider: Granddad's '62 Galaxy 500, much much larger than a 3, weighed maybe 3000 lb vs my ride's 4400...

Commonly done: Remove valve body;clean and inspect solenoids. Clean/replace filter. Replace fluid with new.

How's she run now? Pretty good I'll bet.

BMW's LIFETIME transmission fluid now quitely changed to 100k mi. Most consider that a maximum, with no penalty to changing earlier.

Also, cure that leak! Sounds like your fluid's low.
