i am almost certain that you have to tighten most control arms, traction struts, etc under load. not sure why, but everyone and every post on e38.org says to do so. so yes, indeed you do.

Just replaced mine. It was kind of a pain. If I were you I would replace both the front and rear gaskets for the intake manifold covers as both mine were toast. It also makes it easier to reconnect...
