The DME needs a wheel speed from the ABS unit to impose the US top speed (and protect the original tires). I believe the DME also uses it to detect wrong road so it does not confuse that with engine...

A 2 x 2.4A charger should run pretty cool supplying 2 x 1A. I would guess you won't need to run it at 24V, either, but that should also make it electrically more robust.

If you have a relay that is now toast, why not pop it...
