Use a screwdriver to pry the valve cover up. Use a rocking motion to slowly work it up. On the 7 series remove the bolt from the ABS pump. It will give you another 1inch to get it off.

Yes it will cause a vaccum leak. Remove the 3 orange guides on the valve cover will help when trying to get the valve cover back on.
