Verify that the amp compartment is not...

Verify that the amp compartment is not obstructed.

The amps in early E39s suffered from a lack of a cooling hole in the bottom of the bracket. Also worth checking that the fan is working.

An 8.5 inch wheel is optimal with a 245 section tire. Anything larger will compromise handling.

The wheel width should be no less than 90% of the tire cross-section.

Measure the exhaust back pressure via the pre-cat sensor bung. S/b less than 1-2 psi.

The OEM color is close to noonday sunlight. It's not a good idea to replace them with 6000K bulbs. You're degrading visibility, as well as annoying fellow drivers.

You s/b able to discard the HID ballast, and connect your harness directly to the new headlights.

You'll no doubt get an error signal, since the light control module is programmed for HIDs.

One test for bad chain guides is to remove the lower oil pan - easy on the V8. Look for plastic debris.

Some approaches require modifying/butchering the spare tire well to fit the pipes.

You won't gain enough power to make the mod worthwhile.
