No Freon?

When there's no Freon, the compressor doesn't run. That's one possibility.
Check to see if the A/C switch is working too or if there's a fuse blown.

Have you held the key very close to the rear view mirror when pressing the key.
My 2002 has to have the key very near (a foot or two) for it to open the doors sometimes.
Worth a try if you haven't....

I remember that you have to connect pins 7 & 19 but I'm hazy about the order that you

I have a 2002 Z3 2.5 with a semi-automatic top. You have to unclip top windshield clips anyway so it's not fully automatic. Mine is still working, but if it fails you can twist a knob in the trunk...

I second that. I had that problem on my 2002 2.5 Z3 Roadster.
The flexing causes the wire bundle to break & short.
Very poor design for such a lovely BMW.
