outside temperature reading wrong

it just hasn't been that hot, so it comes down to whom one believes more: when the bimmer says 90 and the android phone says 80, who is right? partly I can ascribe this to being in traffic, on tarmac...

My dash keeps telling me to check coolant level, but it seems fine. Sometimes the alert goes away just because I opened the radiator. Any guesses about this?
