Yes, it IS illegal to pump your own fuel in NJ. However as the pumps are the same as the ones used for self serve, most attendants will not stop you from pumping yourself, but some will.

Correct! Diesel has excess air in the combustion process. Which is exactly why it produces so much NOx that needs to be taken out to meet pollution standards.

Included with the car are tools, like 1 or 2 (nothing like use to be included). But the plastic handle of the screwdriver fits into the DEF caps to unscrew them.
