P.S. the 5.9 sec 0-60 for the 4.8is came from BMW's website-- I have a hard copy-- but it's no longer there, been replaced by the tech data for E70 X5.

It sounds to me like your fuel gauge sensors are not working properly, so when you think you have 1/4 of a tank you are really on empty. Replace your sensors and you should be find.
