Unfortunately, that is pretty common. The activation of the rear defroster creates enough of an electrical disturbance that it affects the antenna built in to the rear window.

No. All the wiring is still there even if no CD changer was ever installed.

The cable should still be good. Plug an iPod in and see what happens.

Did you move/adjust your dashboard dimmer switch? I don't remember if that causes the ambient lighting to adjust as well. Or maybe the bulb(s) burned out.

The only way I can think to have "plugs had been flattened at tips" is to have some catastrophic incident like a SUBSTANTIAL over-rev or timing screw up....

You might as well since you'll be "in the area" anyway. That site has hose kits and complete kits. The aftermarket hose kit + aftermarket CCV valve comes out cheaper than the aftermarket cold weather...
