Very common problem on an e39 that causes battery drain.

Low battery voltage is the most common problem causing the Trans Fail Safe (but not the only cause), just the most common.

So, if it does, you should be able to hear the motor trying to turn, but with a broken pulley, the cable won't make the window go up (or down).
