That's a shunt, and it's supposed to be there....

That's a shunt, and it's supposed to be there. It's a 240 ohm resistor designed to allow the DME to check for misfires due to insufficient voltage. Don't cut it out.

True, the regulator doesn't "wear out" persay. They do however jam, crack, snap, and simply break in half. I can't remember replacing one due to a bad motor, it's usually due to regulator problems....

E34s in particular are very sensitive to bent wheels. It's ridiculous; I've battled it from the beginning. Replaced the wheels, it was good until I drove it out the driveway. The wheels are too soft....
