If it's coming from under the hood, then it's not the brakes. It maybe your coolant steaming out. You may have a crack on the reservoir or cap that releases steam when proper pressure is reached....

If there is a vacuum leak, the best method for detection is a smoke test.
Usual leak spot are crack in the intake boot, f connector, disa o ring, and old hardened vacuum...
