If the brake light was on before you did the brake job, you need to replace (maybe you did) the brake sensor wire also. Without doing that, the brake light will stay on.

I had this exact, exact same experience with my 2000 740i about 2 years ago.
The blinking just continued to get worse, got a replacement unit, had it coded & it's been fine ever since.
