if you can see what the color is on these photos, but its hard to tell, im the 2nd owner and the guy i bought it off of wasnt sure bout the name either, its a weird yellowish white.

i just had to replace my Vanos in my 95 E36 M3. n it was making a slight raddling noise. so check that out 1st. u can always tell if u open ur engine bay n listen, also if u arent getting as much...
