It does not sound metal tapping metal sounds to me, more like the sounds coming from some plastic parts. If both fans are checked fine, I would check front wheel well liner to see if rub the wheels....

Don't let your mechanics touch the car. I suspect it's combination of CCV and other things, clean MAF, chech vacuum leaks, pull the codes first.

What is the spec idle speed of MU62TU engine on 540i? My car's idle speed is tad below 500rpm with heat on, it that too low? Cold start also idled around 500rpm.
