Yes, that tiny amount of oil could do it, but at this point you really don't know how much coolant was in the oil when the bearing failed. It doesn't take much.

You've already figured it out. It's the AC control itself that's died. That is a way-too-common problem with the all-electronic HVAC controls in the E36. They can be fixed...

Are you seeing a drop in the coolant level? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. If so, you probably have a blown head gasket. Check the condition of your oil....is it normal...
