The defroster switch is most likely for the hardtop.

The center rotating switch is not factory. Probably a volume control for an aftermarket subwoofer. Just a guess.

Must be bad timing. I just looked at eBay and only saw cat forward systems. Typically you can find Scorpion, Ansa, Sprint, Remus, etc. Are you looking for an upgrade or just a cheap replacement?

Unless you have ultra high mileage, a center bearing failure is usually a symptom rather than a cause. A repeat failure in the short term points to bad ujoints, etc.
