Do you have a check engine light on? If so, you need to pull the codes for an educated guess. My guess without codes is that your eccentric shaft sensor is bad.

I too went to the DWS06 Contis from PZeros and noticed the steering effort dcreased even more than it was already. Not really liking it too much so far either.

It's hard to say if there was any damage. Certainly, opening the oil filter element and finding shavings from the bearings would be evidence of damage. Removing the oil pan would be a lot more...

I had that on our 2011 328 and replaced all the spark plugs/coils and it went away. Never gave me any codes which was unusual since it would run like crap and sound awful when it did it.

Congrats! If I didn't need the cargo space, the Macan would be in my garage. Should even be more reliable than the BMW, but you pay dearly for maintenance and repairs. An oil change for my 911 runs...

Just let the dealer fix it if you have CPO, but it sure sounds like the ESS which apparently quite commonly fails.

Sounds like you have a failed eccentric shaft sensor. The valve cover has to come off for replacement. A great video if you want to DIY

Your engine must not have valvetronic. Time to look for other causes. Bad gas, dirty fuel filter, leaky injectors, etc.

You can't actually take the sensor out unless you remove the valve cover. You can clean the contacts where the harness connects to the sensor with electrical contact cleaner or MAF sensor cleaner.

The eccentric shaft sensor adjusts the valvetronic to keep your idle stable. At least on the n52 engine (aka 328), the eccentric shaft sensor can internally leak oil into it and causes unstable idle...
