A leaking VCG will not cause a plug's electrode tip to foul. He's ingesting oil through the intake, not via the plug drilling in the head.

You're in the E46 forum BTW, which is 3-series from about 99 to 2006. A 2013 is either an F30 or an E9n. Diff service is similar, but the 2013 uses a special fluid for the X-drive transfer case.

Search for "FSR", "final stage resistor" or "porcupine". If the fan blows erratically, that's likely your problem.

Do you have a check engine light on? A bad thermostat almost always throws...

The alternator need not be a b!tch to reinstall after removal from the mount. The trick is to adjust the sliding sleeve/bushing in the case to give yourself about 1/8" of space on reinstall.
