E60 headlights are a nightmare to open. They're perma-sealed so the "heat it in an oven" trick doesn't work -- you have to cut them open and pray you can seal them back up properly.

I'm assuming you checked for a blown fuse, right? Check the fuse diagram in the trunk to be sure, but it may be fuse #63 (located in the fuse box in the trunk)
