Nvm. I got it out with a third hand, and ended up using the old spring. Turns out that the kinked section isn't long enough to catch the block on the"new" spring.

So I got everything together, turned the key and the kink on the end of the spring jumped over the little blocker. Now it is in between two metal pieces and I can't remove my key or get the spring...

This is EXACTLY what I did. I used my main key to lock the trunk manually (turn key all the way to the right) , and then used the valet key to unlock all of the doors...

You're on the right track.. Clean your ICV, and if you have 80k miles or more you should probably replace your VANOS seals with Beisan seals.
