The original chrome bezel is crimped on to the clock body. NHS can move the bezel from one 52 mm VDO gauge or clock to another for you, they have a die to re-crimp it factory perfect.

Remove the clock and send it to North Hollywood Speedometer and have it rebuilt. They have done vintage BMW VDO clocks for years and have an excellent reputation.

The easiest way to go is mount them on the a-pillar. Autometer makes (or used to make) a dual gauge pod for z3 a-pillar.
