Here's an update:
Both passenger side wheels are shot - big chunks of metal missing from the rim.
Tires are blown
No under carriage carnage

But, it would help to know what kind of E39 we are dealing with.

I am in my 2002 540i and was just run off the road onto a very rough shoulder. Both right tires are blown, but I think the undercarriage is ok. I have an E34 525 at home with standard rims....

If it were that simple. The 02 540i filter has a regulator and there is an IN and a Return on the same end. I just assumed the I6s were the same.

The VANOS solenoid seals, (see the attached pic from realoem.com). One on each head (#9 in the pic). Mine were leaking oil badly.
