The synthetic oil grade/weight varies by manufacture or brand. Your 1999 m52 2.8 would use 0W-40 in Mobil 1. Not sure what your brand spec is.

Not an issue about $, just WHICH one to buy. Most have the cylindrical Peake unit, however the Equus 3030 Innova Diagnostic Code Reader for OBDII Vehicles
is locally available and seems to do more...
